With soo many happenings in the world of employing a domestic help, we got talking with a trusted counsel, and he says that one ought to apply three basic strategies for optimal outcomes. 1) manage the staff , 2) cut some slacks and 3) sometimes shoot it down.
And we have decided to coin it…

Manage your domestic help..
Ok… so the notion of Managing your domestic help simply means that we must embrace versatility and contextual consideration to ensure the work or employment relationship is a highly successful one and beneficial for both parties.
Once you find the perfect match for you based on the criteria you have, then you must onboard your newly recruited domestic helper into your home system.
Clear communication (preferably written down) ought to enable the onboarding process.
Cut some slacks…
According to the online free dictionary: cut (one) some slack is to…
“allow one more latitude or freedom than usual; to be more lenient with one.”
Basically, in the domestic help- employer relationship, one must seek to balance rigidity in delineating your detailed dos and don’ts- rules et al and leniency so as to enable an easy onboarding.
Guess we can say managing comes with cutting some slacks. So long as there is no iota of malicious intentions, refusal to obey conditions /rules of work, or outright negligence, we must cut some slacks. Cutting some slacks isn’t to say that the expected standard isn’t in focus or wouldn’t be upheld…, it just implies that if character, competence isn’t absent, let’s give it some time and the work relationship most likely would be in cruise control.
Shoot it down…! Lol! Seems like we are in a militarized zone right now. Shoot it down certainly isn’t what you’d expect to be used in an employer – employee work relationship.🤣
Yet it comes in aptly. This phrase just posits that in the bid to manage and embrace cutting some slacks, we must never let our guard down completely to the point where we caught unawares.
It must hands off but not eyes off. We must be aware of all that’s happening in our home space and quickly address a situation that’s not in line with standard or our expectations. Shutting down could sometimes mean immediate disengagement and/or termination of contract or the employer stalling a bit to get an appropriate replacement when the work relationship isn’t mutually beneficial.
In this times, safety and security is most essential, we must pay attention and do all it takes to ensure our health and sanctity on the homefront.
