Hmm…, ok in recent times (this year 2019), I have had huge hiccups with househelp.

First girl employed was soft spoken yet very rebellious. As in, she couldn’t or preferred not to speak loud but she had a subtle yet very disruptive form of rebellion. After correction, she would retort by saying, (in the usual inaudible tone) “it wouldn’t happen again”.

One day, had a dream of her holding a goat by my kitchen door and other strange things. Still, persevered oo but could tell with her behaviour that the work relationship was not working. Was already searching for a suitable replacement sef! Yet the signs were there that she was going to leave at the end of month.

Infact, when you notice these signs be ready!

At month end exactly- Monday morning, she didn’t show up at the instructed time to resume.
When they don’t show up like that, in addition to other signs like refusing food, being distant, asking for salary quick quick for one reason or the other etc.(the list is inexhaustible), be ready oo!

Amazingly, over the years, I have experienced similar behavioural traits hence the aforementioned conclusions.
Maybe we can term these traits- Naija house-help withdrawal symptoms (lol! N.W.S)
Gosh, one must always be prepared oo! They aren’t your children! Don’t be too attached ! Even the ones that have served for long, can spring surprises on you.

So…I had another house-help after the soft spoken yet rebellious girlie. Hmmm… She was pregnant. These people sha…!

They act odd. Is it the similarity in environment that causes a certain predictability or na village winch (witch from village) just be their problem???
Beats me…!🤔

Maybe you have a perfect explanation.

What do you think?!
Ps: their male counterparts are another kettle of fish entirely. Hmm… (discussion for another day!)
